Upcoming Community Events & Recognition: Planned Award Categories

Some of the best work we see comes from students and young developers who never get a stage to show it. We want to change that.

LogicGigs and Code Academy are planning a series of community events — and alongside them, recognition for people who build, design and contribute exceptionally well.

Please note: these events and categories are planned. No awards have been given yet. Dates, eligibility, submission rules and judging criteria will be announced before each event.

What kinds of events we're planning

  • Project showcases — students and developers demo what they have built.
  • Build nights and challenges — short, focused sessions around a real problem.
  • Talks and workshops — practical sessions on frontend, backend, UI/UX and AI engineering.
  • Portfolio reviews — honest feedback from people who build software for a living.

Planned recognition categories

Frontend Developer of the Year — for interfaces that are fast, accessible and a pleasure to use, built with care for detail and real users.

Best Custom Designer — for original visual work: branding, illustration or UI that feels crafted rather than templated.

Best UI/UX Project — for the project that best understands its users: clear flows, thoughtful states and evidence of testing with real people.

Best AI Engineer — for AI features that are useful and responsible: evaluated, grounded in real data and honest about their limits.

Best Agentic AI Project — for systems that plan, use tools and complete multi-step tasks safely, with the right human checks in place.

Best Software Project — for a complete, working product: solid engineering, clean code, deployment and a real problem solved.

Emerging Developer Award — for a newer developer or student whose growth, persistence and progress stood out.

How we plan to judge

We intend to keep it fair and transparent:

  • Clear criteria published before submissions open.
  • Judging based on work submitted, reviewed by a panel of practitioners.
  • Feedback for participants, not just a list of winners.

Who can take part

We expect most events to be open to Code Academy students and alumni, and some to the wider developer and design community. Each event announcement will state exactly who can join.

How to stay informed

  • Code Academy students will receive event announcements in their dashboard notifications.
  • Everyone else can create a free account to get updates, or contact us if you'd like to host, speak or support an event.

We can't wait to see what you build. Start now — the best entries will be the ones people have been working on for months.
